[LISTEN UP] MUSEUM OF LOVE - DOWN SOUTH

DFA is at it again! Pat Mahoney (founding member and drummer of LCD Soundsystem) and Dennis McNany (aka Jee Day, member of The Juan Maclean and founder of Run-Roc Records) have come together to form Museum Of Love. Pat and Dennis met 14 years ago, but that doesn’t matter. Born of friendship 10,000 tallboys, 400 bistro burgers and 10 million cigarettes – here is the Museum of Love. Their debut single ‘Down South’ will be released on DFA Records June 11th, 2013. Dennis writes most of the music, and Pat sings most of the words. Their debut album will be release later this year and I can't wait!

12 YEARS OF DFA: TOO OLD TO BE NEW, TOO NEW TO BE CLASSIC

Red Bull Music Academy spotlights DFA Records, the iconic NYC record label that got the indie kids to dance in this fresh video, featuring music and appearances from James Murphy, LCD Soundsystem, The Rapture, Holy Ghost!, The Juan MacLean, Shit Robot, Sinkane, YACHT and many more.

DFA is a family,” says Jonathan Galkin (DFA’s Co-Founder) in the video. “Dysfunctional is a good word.”

But what puts the “fun” in it? “The fundamental element of the DFA sound tends to be the way the kickdrum works, which tends to be a steady fork,” says composer Peter Gordon. Another “fun"-fused word.

And for every release the folks at RBMA throw a bangin' party to go with it. On May 25th, Red Bull Music Academy takes overs Brooklyn’s Grand Prospect Hall for a seven-hour, multi-room celebration of the label’s 12th anniversary. The night will see performances by James Murphy and over 15 more live acts and DJs spanning the entire history of DFA, including some first ever US performances.

[LISTEN UP] THE JUAN MACLEAN - YOU ARE MY DESTINY

The Juan Maclean has clearly reserved some crackling energy for “You Are My Destiny,” his 19th release on DFA. Refracting frequent vocalist and former LCD Soundsystem band member Nancy Whang’s vocals into glossolalic whirls before crashing into a full-on progressive peak-time tool, “You Are My Destiny” manages to make you believe the endearment of the title. Saved Records head Nic Fanciulli takes the reins for the b-side with a stripped remix that subverts the soaring vocal and numerous crescendos into a claustrophobic thump, while a crunchy bass line plays hide-and-seek with shy pads. Available now as an edition of 75 white labels from HERE. The regular edition is available worldwide April 1st, with digital to follow on April 9th.
