Greek electronic producer and DFA Recording artist Larry Gus' takes Cut Copy's song "We Are Explorers," from their fourth album Free Your Mind, and makes it his own with some really cool bells, cymbals and a variety of other percussion instruments that make for a very much euphoric listening experience.

[LISTEN UP] JOE GODDARD - TAKING OVER

Joe Goddard of Hot Chip just released a new EP titled ‘Taking Over’ on July 9th via DFA; a four track EP to reflect the next chapter in his love affair with stinky dry-ice and sticky floors in basements around the world.

The title ‘Taking Over’ is, as Joe says, “a reference to that moment when the music at a club starts to really hit you, when it forces you to focus on it and the night ahead.” Featuring collaborations with Boris Dlugosch and Mara Carlyle, ‘Taking Over’ is “an attempt to make synthesizers sound nice.”

The tribal glitches of Larry Gus’ 2012 full-length Silent Congas find new life in this pair of remixes, from Hana and Hello Skinny. Gus’ peculiar aural language and sampladelia makes for pleasantly askew structures, with “Figueroa Islands” leaving gaps of space percolating expectantly over the two-note synth foundation and vocals delayed into gobbledygook. Hello Skinny tosses in squalls of chuckling over the tubular propulsion, with belching fuzz leaving plenty of dust on the staircases of baroque scales. [LISTEN UP] SHIT ROBOT - FEELS REAL

The Hi-NRG history of Luke Jenner’s hometown San Francisco is freshly revived for Shit Robot’s cheekily-titled “Feels Real,” on which Jenner plays the slinky Sylvester to Marcus Lambkin’s Patrick Cowley wizardry. Meaty and a bit menacing, Jenner asserts “I think you’ll always want my love” over washes of organ. It all builds to an ecstatic, shouted peak before the whirligig synths implode under the weight of Jenner’s pure falsetto. For the remix, Luke Solomon scrapes off some gloss and opens synthetic space around the ghosts of a guitar lick, while extending the blissful vocal peak over analog bombast and tasteful strands of acid. [LISTEN UP] MAN TEAR - OUTSIDE AMORE

Axel Boman and Petter Nordkvist of Sweden’s Studio Barnhus momentarily shine a mirror ball onto their usual punch-drunk house for their debut release as Man Tear. A collaboration with vocalist J. Jonason, “Outside Amore” is a trilling slab of spacious disco, the loping drums and chiming synthesizer accents pirouetting in tandem with Jonason’s tremulous delivery. The yearning vox of the original are kinetic on their own, but the dub further accosts Jonason with all manner of interplanetary commotion and shards of tambourine.
