[PREVIEW] DISAPPEARS LIVE AT EMPTY BOTTLE DEC 12TH IN CHICAGO
For Kranky’s 20th anniversary they're hosting four shows in Chicago from December 12-15 and the 1st one is at Empty Bottle with Disappears, along with Lichens, and Implodes this Thursday Dec 12th. If you are not familiar with Disappears, they exploded on the Chicago scene back in 2008. They were so good in fact, they caught the attention of drummer Steve Shelley from Sonic Youth, who toured with them in 2011 following the release of their album “Guider”. They have a new record out titled “Era”, and will be playing this show in support of that record. They are known for their lives shows, and I’m sure will be melting faces Thursday night. It would be a pity if you could not make it and all your friends told you about how their faces got melted Thursday and it was totally wicked. So get your tickets now and we will see you at the Empty Bottle!!

[PREVIEW] CASS MCCOMBS LIVE AT EMPTY BOTTLE DEC 6TH
It’s Christmas time, and there is no better way to soothe your soul than by the musical stylings of Cass McCombs. I’ll have you know I am not so much a huge fan of folky acoustic music, but Cass seems to have found a way to transcend the typical mellow to almost ethereal levels. Besides being gifted with a sultry and serenade worthy voice, his songwriting skills are seriously top notch. His songs weave in and out of acoustic guitar, gentle feedback, and crooning vocals. With strong Chicago roots, there is no doubt he is going to bring a stellar performance to our fair city. Cass McCombs plays this Friday 12/03 at the Empty Bottle. This show comes highly recommended.

[PREVIEW] ZOMBI AT EMPTY BOTTLE THIS FRIDAY NOVEMBER 29TH
After their previous stint opening up for Goblin (Suspiria soundtrack masterminds), Zombi has returned to headline the empty bottle this Friday. Zombi has managed to pull off a space rock, anthemic sounding show that will most likely hypnotize you into some kind of trance. Using only bass, drums, and a bunch of analog synthesizers, these guys will make you feel like you are on Mars! No joke. And it's beautiful. Steve Moore and A.E. Paterra, the masterminds and multi-instrumentalists behind Zombi, are incredibly talented fellows. Why they are playing the bottle and not writing scores for David Lynch films is beyond me, so you should really check these guys out. [LISTEN UP] TEMPLES - MESMERISE
Temples just announced the forthcoming new single 'Mesmerise' from the bands eagerly anticipated debut album 'Sun Structures'. In the UK it will be released by Heavenly Recordings on February 10th 2014 and February 11th in the US by Fat Possum. The 12-track album was self-produced by the band’s James Bagshaw and mixed by Claudius Mittendorfer. Human lives are comprised of memories, and like bubbles they appear in all forms and colors, shifting shapes as they float. The video for "Recollection" is about confronting those memories, where we follow a world-worn woman along a very personal path. She has a story to tell, things to reconcile - like all of us. "Recollection" is from Keep Shelly in Athens' new album, At Home, out now on Cascine. Gothy chill-ravers DISTANT CITIES combining their love for 80s synth-pop and minimalistic songwriting (and endless cauldrons of black glitter) to travel through bubbles of consciousness and seep inside the darkest corners of your blackened heart. Dreamy darkwave trio BELMONT AND CLARK make their Bottle debut tonight and electronic dance music initiative A YEAR IN A DAY opens the show. CHICAGO SHOWCASES CHILEAN RAPPER ANA TIJOUX
Ana Tijoux is a Chilean rapper whose popularity is rising with every new release. Her latest album, La Bala, proves that you don't have to understand the language to be able to relate to the music, which speaks to your ears using a combination of hip-hop and jazz. The first and title track "La Bala" sucks you in with a marching snare beat and gun sounds, and unlike the "cool" recruiters that visit local high schools, you may actually want to join this army. Many songs feature a 90's hip-hop sound--specifically "Desclasificado", which was created for cruisin' in your car. Despite several songs featuring other artists--Tijoux is at her best when flying solo. Her confidence and soothing voice is no contest to the accompanying musicians that mostly contribute to choruses and backing vocals. "Quizas" ft. Monica Blaire uses english as well as spanish creating a bi-lingual r&b groove while "Si Te Preguntan" ft. Los Aldeanos carries true to popular spanish music today. With a grammy nomination from her last project, 1977, and now, an even better album under her belt, let's see if this lands her a win in the future.

[ALBUM REVIEW] SUMMER TWINS - SUMMER TWINS
Back in the heyday of Myspace, I became friends with a "Chelsea Brown". She was a California cutie…in a band. As a band-less girl in the middle of nowhere, I'll admit that I was a wee bit jealous. Later on, along with her sister, Justine, the two formed Summer Twins. Their new, self-titled album (released through Burger Records) is a lo-fi, surf rock romp. Like unwrapping a lovely homemade gift tied with a pretty lace bow, tracks such as "I Will Love You" open up the the dreamy sound world of the classic 60's girl groups. The songs make me think about hanging out with the Summer Twins, drinking coke out of bottles, talking about cute boys we hate, and riding bikes through a graveyard. Summer Twins will be at the Empty Bottle, March 25th supporting Peter Case & Paul Collins.
